Creating safe spaces where recovery can happen!
Background
In 2019, the East Oakland Recovery Center, which had served as a home for alcoholics, addicts and those that love and support them for decades, closed its doors. With no other recovery centers in the area, the 12 Step meetings dispersed to various locations throughout the East Bay.
Vincent Garrett had previously attempted to organize and establish a recovery clubhouse in 2009, because there were talks about the EORC closing a decade earlier, but the effort was unsuccessful. However, in 2019, the closure of the center highlighted the pressing need for a dedicated recovery space, garnering increased support from the community.
Following some discussions with the community, Sonia Reed chartered the nonprofit in 2023, and we initiated the process of organizing and recruiting others. We developed our Mission Statement, Vision, and Core Values, and began planning strategies to secure grants and funding. Our goal is to break ground in 2025.

Community Fundraising
This Giving Tuesday, we are asking for your support to bring a life-changing resource to Oakland: a Recovery Clubhouse designed to support individuals rebuilding their lives from addiction and alcoholism.
Oakland is facing a growing behavioral health crisis, and too many people completing treatment or seeking sobriety have nowhere to turn for ongoing, community-based support. A Recovery Clubhouse fills that critical gap by offering a safe, sober, empowering environment where individuals can connect with peers, attend support groups, participate in skills-building programs, and develop a stable foundation for long-term recovery.
Your Giving Tuesday donation will directly help us:
• Establish a permanent, accessible clubhouse location
• Launch peer-led recovery programs, meetings, and mentorship
• Provide social, educational, and wellness activities that foster belonging
• Create a stigma-free space where people feel valued and supported
Every gift—large or small—brings us closer to opening a welcoming haven for people seeking healing, resilience, and new beginnings. Recovery is not a solitary journey. With your partnership, we can build a place where hope is restored daily.
Please join us this Giving Tuesday and help make Oakland’s Recovery Clubhouse a reality.
Thank you for believing in this work and in the people it will help.
